Two steps forward, two steps back

The good news: my SATA drive went into my PC easily.
The bad news: I have to replace the motherboard. Its USB ports went bad.
I had a friend here for over 6 hours, and he tried his best to make it work. It turns out to be the hardware at fault.
Fortunately the part is under warranty.
